Calm Coastal Kitchens

Seascape in Winter Wallpaper in an Airbnb by @parrtar

Whenever I go on holiday, I want to recreate that restful feeling when I get back home.

Take inspiration from what was around you and add reminders of the sea for as soon as you step into the kitchen to make your first coffee/green tea/smoothie of the day.  A simple colour scheme inspired by the muted colours of the sea, and moody coastal skies like this sweet airbnb kitchen above with utilitarian crockery and accessories creates a simpleness that is more sophisticated than hanging nautical memorabilia in your home.

Rather than wallpapering behind the kitchen units, you can always wallpaper a little dining nook so you can gaze at mesmerising waves and stormy skies as you eat and this will visually zone the area.

The colours of the sky and the sea combined with gentle waves and natural wood create a dining zone in this little kitchen below, providing a restful space for breakfast. You don’t need to wallpaper the whole wall, @sabine_buro_binnenhuis has painted below the dado and the upper section of the wall giving the pattern space to breath.

THE TILES

Wallpaper isn’t always practical in a kitchen, and sometimes it is simpler to have tiles. Create a clutter free kitchen with only your favourite china on display, everything else is stored neatly in glass fronted cupboards, with Seascape tiles covering the entire wall in a repeating pattern of waves for a high end, streamlined look.

With a tiled splash back, you don’t have to worry about spills and can wipe down the wall after an adventurously oily cooking session! Seascape tiles can frame the area behind the oven or sink as well as being used over a full wall. But always keep it simple with a limited colour palette of muted coastal hues to keep the relaxed feeling of a holiday.
